Sean O'Malley loses to Merab Dvalishvili and ends up in surgery

Sean O'Malley loses to Merab Dvalishvili and ends up in surgery

Sean O'Malley , one of the UFC 's biggest stars, has confirmed that he will undergo surgery on October 3, which will keep him out of the Octagon for an extended period of time. Following his loss to Merab Dvalishvili at UFC 306 , the Montana fighter revealed that he will be out for six to eight months, although it was initially feared that it could be a full year.

Sean O'Malley's surgery

O'Malley explained that the reason for his extended absence is due to a labrum injury in his left hip: "I tore my labrum about 10 weeks ago. We have a labrum in both the shoulders and the hips, and mine was torn in my left hip," he said in an interview with Adin Ross. According to O'Malley, the recovery time will depend on how the surgery progresses and the rehabilitation process.

One year without Sean O'Malley in the UFC

The former champion was clear: "After the surgery, it shouldn't take more than two months to be able to move, and then I'll need another two months for full recovery. A year is a long time, but it could be six to eight months. We'll see how it goes. I just go with the flow, you never know." The fighter assured that the UFC will not be the same without him , reaffirming the importance of his presence inside the octagon.

Defeat against Merab Dvalishvili at UFC 306

At UFC 306 , Sean O'Malley suffered a crushing defeat against Merab Dvalishvili , who controlled the fight with his relentless style. However, the American does not want his hip injury to be seen as an excuse for that defeat: "It's been a great week of fighting, I felt good. No excuses. My mother even asked me: 'You weren't the same, what was wrong with you?' Nothing wrong, I just took a beating. Everyone told me I looked different, but there was nothing wrong. Zero excuses."

Sean O'Malley's future in the UFC

Despite the loss, O'Malley remained optimistic about his future in the UFC . Although Merab Dvalishvili was the big winner, 'Sugar' acknowledged that much of the buzz on social media revolved around him: "It was all about me losing, not Merab winning. In the end, it should have been the 'Sugar show'. I always end up being the center of attention, even when I lose."

Sean O'Malley 's surgery and recovery will mark a turning point in his career. The UFC is preparing for a long absence from the fighter, but his fans hope he will come back stronger than ever after this tough setback.
